French star midfielder Kadidiatou Diani may be making the move to the NWSL, specifically the Portland Thorns, after turning down an extension from her current club Paris Saint-Germain. The report from Goal states that the 24-year-old has her sights set on moving to the United States, which would be a major boon to the league.
Diani has been an exemplary midfielder for PSG. She has played 56 games and scored 27 goals since 2017. Her time there has helped the Paris-based club become ultra competitive for the Division 1 Féminine as they trail Lyon by just five points.
Diani has also created a name for herself on the international stage where she has competed with the French National team in the U-17, 18 and 20 teams before becoming a permanent fixture in the midfield with the adult team. Since joining, she has played in 54 games and scored 10 goals. During the last World Cup she played in all five games before falling to the US in the quarterfinal round.
For Portland it is a chance to remain near the top following a disappointing exit in the 2019 playoffs to the Chicago Red Stars. Adding Diani will put another dangerous threat behind the ball, making it difficult for defenses. Additionally, she's only 24 and could be a major international star for the league in the coming years.
